El Paso Natural Gas Company’s 50-year history with the Navajo Nation is one of cooperation, camaraderie, and mutual respect. Since 1947, when then-El Paso President Paul Kayser developed plans to construct a 450-mile, 24-inch diameter natural gas pipeline that would transport San Juan Basin natural gas into southern California, El Paso has nurtured its relationship with the Nation. El Paso and the Nation are currently at an impasse on the renewal of the company’s right of way on Nation land. To continue to supply Southwest and California markets with cost-competitive natural gas, El Paso hopes to reach agreement on an extension that is fair to the Nation and the consumers that rely on El Paso for dependable natural gas supplies from the San Juan Basin.

for more than 50 years in the San Juan Basin.
